" Sopheear be quit-quit-quit-quit...um...quiet..." the captain sticks his left hand under his left arm and the same with the
right. He flaps them up and down.
Sophia is silenced. Finally!
You creep, silent this time, through the jungle. "Sophia, tell me--quietly--how do you get Bob here?" you ask.
"Bump ball backwards, bean bag bup," she replies.
"Huh?" you say.
"She meaaaans...dunno" answers the Captain.
'Grrrrrr'
"You sure you don't know?"
" Maybe...nah..."
"What is it?"
"Maybe twistle a k-nobble then droop a bean down thee holic!"
That has absulutely no sense in it.
"Maybe it means...twist a knob then drop a bean down the hole it makes?" you wonder out loud.
Celebrates the captain: "sure! Yas!"
So you start a 'k-nobble' hunt. As you pull back a bush, you feel a pain on your back and hear histerical laughter.
You stand up, fuming.
" Sophia..."
"No no, I am Zophie" says a voice.
'Natives!' you hadn't thought of that.
" Now..." the native girls hair fell like rope; she had dreadlocks. Her skin was a dark brown, "vou ear loooking for a twist?"
"Y-yes..." you stammer in answer. This girl spoke with so many accents she sounded like the Captain and Sophia at the
same time.
"Vell, zere ees von right vere" says Sophie.
"Thanks so much! Thankyou-thankyou-thankyou!" you resist the impulse to celebrate.
"Zankyou? Zankyou zankyou zankyou?" experiments the native.
"Right...zankyou," you are getting the hang of this accent, "now vere ees the twist?" you ask, twisting your tongue around.
"Oh...zat....zat ees right vere, as Zi sayed," answers Sophie, pointing to the ground.
You look down and see a twist-thing, it looks a bottle cap.
"Um...is there a...mm," you feel embarresed, " a bean around here?"
"A beeen? Vound, yas?"
"Yas! May I have one?" you enquire hopefully.
"You may," booms a deep voice, "vollow me." It is the cheif. You bow.
"Uh...thanks..." you accept timidly.
"Zanks?" asks Sophie.
"Zanks" you agree.
"SOPHIAA...CAPTAIN SMI--ITH..." you call to your friends. You clutch at the tiny bean.
"NO NOT NEVER!" shrieks Sophia.
